Ashtanga Yoga Immersion for students

10 days (2 x 5) over the year 2019/2020

Immerse in the detail and take your time to absorb it all with these two experienced teachers.

Continual refinement and regular practice of the foundations are the secrets to advancement through Ashtanga Yoga. When we practice regularly we often leave these techniques behind. Our focus gets a little lost as our ‘monkey mind’ strives for ‘goals’ and we sometimes lose the intimate experience that can be found in the practice. Practicing attentively will allow us to discover or recover & refresh what we once knew as we return to the foundations. There is always infinitely more to explore here, and infinitely more to understand. If we allow ourselves to revisit the details, our practice can deepen, sometimes in sudden and unexpected ways.

The purpose of the Ashtanga Yoga Immersion course is to provide practitioners, whatever stage they are at, with a chance to learn or reinvigorate their grasp of the beginnings. Revisit the foundational techniques of breath, asana, focus and alignment. Refreshing these (or learning them for the first time) will bring a deeper experience not only from external movements of the body but also the subtleties of the internal mechanics, bandha & subtle internal body activation.

The transformational magic of Ashtanga Yoga should be revealed through regular practice, on this journey we gain knowledge of our external and internal world, finding patience with the process to allow it to do it’s work. We do not need to be bendy or strong for this to happen, the practice allows it to happen naturally. The movements, locks, focus, breath and postures bring awareness into our centre, into our very heart and soul. It allows us clear space to see beyond the confines of our daily routine and look inside at the deep learning that can be found when the cobwebs are dusted away.

PART ONE - 2nd - 6th OCTOBER 2019

PART ONE we will focus on the first part of the primary series up to Navasana

Our daily structure will look something like this

We will start day one with a Guided Led Class, beginners are especially welcome to this as they will learn the basics from scratch - the following days we may split into two groups depending on attendees for our morning asana practice. A Conference focussing on a different topic each day. Chanting practice (or optional extended lunch break) Breaking down the asanas - taking an in depth look at the different postures of the first half of the primary series, the importance of the standing sequence, forward folds & twists, how to efficiently enter and exit each one, find space and support using bandha, how they work anatomically and energetically. Focus on some simple pranayama and meditation techniques.

Through the five days we will come together and learn the vinyasa count and the asana names correctly, there maybe a little homework overnight! There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions about your own practice as the group will be kept small. You will leave with a renewed feeling of confidence about your body and mind. You should feel empowered to establish a daily practice for yourself.

You can use this immersion to begin your Ashtanga yoga journey, enhance your existing knowledge or build confidence to join our Mysore self practice programme

Between part one and part two there will be a couple of assignments to complete

PREREQUSITES - PART ONE - Can be taken on its own

This immersion is designed for beginners and regular practitioners. There are no requirements of technical proficiency needed, people with physical limitations are welcome. We will be guided through the immersion working with the students that attend and exploring where we go from there. WE begin NOW in the present moment.
